We’re starting a new feature on HowToEatAndLive.com to highlight interesting food, nutrition, cooking, or lifestyle stories that we encounter elsewhere on the Internet. Each week we’ll publish a list of links and a short (1-2 sentence) commentary on each of them.
With that out of the way, this weeks links:
- Apple & Bacon Stuffed Pork Chops on Paleo Parents. We made this recipe last week and it was fantastic. Kathleen was sad that we only made two chops (it was all we had on hand) so there were no leftovers. Hat tip to Bryce Thornton who’s a frequent commenter here for passing it along.
- Dairy and Its Effect on Insulin Secretion (and What It Means for Your Waistline) on Mark’s Daily Apple. An interesting look at the whether or not dairy is useful if you’re working to keep insulin (and weight) under control. As the comments point out, most of the studies deal with pasteurized and homogenized milk, which is different from raw whole milk (which we drink). So the jury is out as far as I’m concerned, but it’d be interested to self-experiment a bit and see.
- Coconut and Almond Milk in Cartons Not a Healthy Buy on The Healthy Home Economist could make you think twice about these popular milk substitutes.
- Ice Cream vs. Human Breast Milk on 180 Degree Health is an amusing but educational comparison between the two (at least one of the pictures in there is marginally NSFW).
If you know of something we should be paying attention to, feel free to drop a comment below.
Thanks for reading!
Here is another link supporting a lot of what you are posting.
Have you thought of adding a recipe tab to your site? At least a weekly recipe maybe someday a daily posting?

This is a great idea. We hope to implement this – this week.
